Human-Centered Design and Operational Safety

Public agency facilities serve both citizens and employees, requiring careful attention to diverse user experiences. We prioritize early engagement with maintenance staff and administrators to understand workflow needs, ensure safety for all users, and create clear separation between public areas and operational zones. Our designs emphasize proper lighting, ventilation, and ergonomic considerations that support both customer service excellence and worker well-being.

Mixed-use public facilities navigate complex regulatory landscapes spanning federal, state and local jurisdictions. We coordinate early with multiple agencies to address zoning requirements for combined administrative and maintenance functions, environmental compliance including environmental and workforce requirements, and accessibility standards. Situated within a public park, the new Hamlin Yard facility will be barely perceptible to those passing by. Composition of form, color and building materials creates harmony with the surrounding landscape—with vertical patterning of black metal siding and a liberal use of exposed wood that mimic the tall trees and forest understory.
