Korsmo Construction and TCF Architecture selected to design and build a new “all encompassing” K-12 campus in Neah Bay
Neah Bay High is one of two schools to be replaced by a new K-12 building on the Makah reservation.
The Cape Flattery School District has selected the team of Korsmo Construction and TCF Architecture to design and build a new “all encompassing” K-12 campus in Neah Bay.
Neah Bay is located on the Makah Reservation in Clallam County, near the Washington/Canada border. The project involves a campus relocation from 3560 Deer St. to a 15-acre site on Makah Tribal Trust land, for which the school district and Tribal Council have initiated lease negotiations.
The Deer Street site currently houses Neah Bay Elementary and Neah Bay High schools. Campus relocation is necessary as the existing schools are in an area prone to flooding in the case of a tsunami event .The new campus location is on higher ground above the tsunami zone and is known to have stable soil conditions.
The new campus will include a single school building that will co-locate all K-12 students in one facility, as well as district administrative and educational support spaces.
Seven bids were received for the progressive design-build opportunity. The contract amount is stillto be determined. The estimated hard project cost is $79.2 million. The total project budget is$95.4 million.
The relocation is being funded through a combination of Seismic & Tsunami School Safety grant funds, and the School Construction Assistant Program.
The design-build team is based in Tacoma. Design is anticipated to begin in August. Construction is expected to follow in May/June 2025. The project should be substantially completed by September 2026.
Tribal culture will be integrated into the design of the new campus.
